History

Hanwell Community Centre is housed in the remains of the Central London School District, formed in 1849. The live-in school, nicknamed the Cuckoo School, could accommodate a total of 1,200 children from impoverished backgrounds. Children transferred to Hanwell from Norwood school or member union workhouses.
